DIY winter himmeli garland

When it comes time to put away all the Christmas decorations, I always get a little bummed to pack all of the things that made our apartment feel so festive. (And the tree always smells so good!) This year I’ve decided to make decorations for each season to keep the apartment cheerful all year. When I received these geometric ornaments from For the Makers, I thought they were the perfect winter decoration.

All of the supplies came from For the Makers’ geometric ornament kit except for the wire. I found that it was a lot easier to use the wire instead of thread to make the ornaments faster.

After making a few of these geometric ornaments I started getting really interested in other projects similar to this one. I found that there is this beautiful Finnish Christmas tradition called himmeli where people make geometric ornaments to hang around the house and on the tree. Definitely will be making a larger himmeli ornament soon.

To make the hooks that hold the ornaments to the garland, I twisted a tiny piece of wire into a fish hook shape.

Displayed on the door next to a beachy Polaroid, I think it might be possible to get through a New York City January and February. 🙂
