So when Lindsay of Shrimp Salad Circus asked me to be a part of an awesome little blog collaboration called “Project Reimagined,” I was super excited. I’ve been a huge fan of Lindsay’s blog ever since I stumbled upon her wooden branch buttons a while ago and I’ve admired her go-get-em and crafty attitude ever since. ๐Ÿ™‚

Project Reimagined is a DIY challenge that Lindsay created to inspire people to think outside the box and see things for more than what they are. For Project Reimagined, a handful of different bloggers are all given the exact same item and asked to turn it into something new. This weekโ€™s project starts with a plain white tee shirt, and it has been reimagined by Lindsay of course, Katie of Lemon Jitters, Lexy of The Proper Pinwheel, and me! (Not a bad crowd to be in.) ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you want to be a part of “Project Reimagined,” just create a blog or Facebook post with a picture of something youโ€™ve created from a plain white tee shirt, and link it up in the comments on this post! ๐Ÿ™‚

How to Make the Spine T-Shirt:

The only things you really need for this project are a white t-shirt, some soft fabric paint or dye, some scissors, an empty bottle, and a paintbrush.

The first thing I did was drip about a tablespoon of soft fabric paint into an empty bottle and add some water. Diluting the soft fabric paint makes it behave more like dye. I love the streaks that it makes in the shirt when you hang it up to dry– and there is a little bit of glitter in the paint. ๐Ÿ™‚

After you’ve hung your shirt to dry, lay it out on the ground and plan where you want your spine to go. I just made general little areas with a pen.

Cut em out! The spine shape does not have to be perfectly cut– I actually think it looks more edgy and less like you’re cutting little circles in the shirt if you make it a little rough.

After you’ve cut out all the spinal discs, just paint ribs on the back.

Here was my original source of inspiration. My roommate, Adele, bought this spine tank top from Urban Outfitters. (Not available online.) ๐Ÿ™

I took these photos this weekend when Sean and I were going on the weekly adventure to Trader Joes. It was so nice to walk around the Flatiron District. The Flatiron building is one of the most iconic buildings in NYC and used to be one of the tallest buildings in NYC in 1902. It is also the subject of my favorite Polaroid ever. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm so thrilled to have you in on the first installment of this project, Stacie, and of course your project is fantastic! Very seasonally-appropriate, and probably something I'll end up coming back to for last-minute Halloween purposes. Love it!
