DIY Moroccan-Inspired Mirror

Moroccan Mirror with Mod Podge Melts
These days as we are planning to move to a new apartment in August, I’ve been really into the bohemian vibes and rich tones of Moroccan-inspired decor. When I got the chance to work with the new line of Mod Podge Melts and Molds, I was so tickled and I knew I had to try and make something for our new apartment. (We’re only moving around the corner, by the way.) πŸ™‚

To use the Mod Podge Melts and Molds, it’s pretty simple. All you need is a glue gun, the mold, and some hot glue sticks. The Mod Podge melts come in a milk glass and a sea glass finish. To make the mirror I made, I used a mirror intended for tabletop decoration and a plate hanger.

To make all of the flowers from the mold, you just fill the mold with the hot glue and let it dry.

I found that I got the nicest-shaped flowers when I dipped my finger in canola oil and then pressed the flower into the mold. The best part is your fingers don’t get burned because the oil acts like a barrier for the heat. It’s just like when you lick your fingers before putting out a candle. πŸ™‚

Here’s what my flowers looked like after they were all dried. You can paint them with regular acrylic paint or nail polish, but I had so many so I decided to spray paint them a shiny metallic silver.

The details really come out after the flowers have been painted.

After I let the flowers dry, I cut a piece of posterboard to fit around the outside of the mirror and then backed it with cardboard to make it stronger. Then I covered it in masking tape and painted it all a metallic gold.

With some additional tiny square mirrors and rhinestones, I glued everything in place on the mirror frame with hot glue and E6000 superglue.

After I let all of the flowers and square mirror pieces dry, I glued the mirror to the mirror frame with E6000 superglue. (I put the plate hanger on first.)

Right now the mirror is in our bathroom– I don’t know where it will end up in our new apartment, but you can’t have too many mirrors in small spaces. πŸ™‚
