DIY Constellation Cardigan

DIY Constellation Sweater
Over Christmas, my friend Emily made me this incredible constellation cardigan. (My friend Emily is an incredible painter, by the way.) In elementary school, one of my favorite days of the year was when we had this thing called Star Lab, which was a portable planetarium. Lying on the ground of the gym floor in a giant blow-up dome, it was the first time I remember learning about the constellations. Orion, Andromeda, Cassiopeia, The Big Dipper, The Little Dipper… The coolest thing about the constellations is that there’s this intersection of science, beauty, and legends.

Emily got the idea for the sweater from this Anthropologie sweater. 🙂

If last year was the year of the galaxy dress, galaxy scarf, galaxy shirt 1 and 2 for me… I think this year will be the year of constellation projects. There’s something so simple and beautiful about them.

To make the constellations, it’s really simple. Emily just did a running stitch in the shapes of the constellations with white seed bead accents around it. There’s also this tutorial that is a bit more detailed if you need more help. 🙂

This is perfect for me : my daughter is called Cassiopée, this cardigan could be a nice present. However, her birthday is next week : so, I'll keep this in mind for Xmas for instance…
